The house in which we shifted was 60 years of age. We had all our repairing done but the only thing left was the lippage of the bathroom tiles. The ground on which the house was built, had levelling problems and thus the unsettled condition gave rise to lippage of the titles. We had our tile levelling kit but one of the most crucial thing was missing, i.e. the tile levelling spacers. The tile glue on which the tiles were fixed, went old and was cracked at places thus, some of the tiles were coming up. We decided to set them fresh so, we pulled them up. The process of tile fixing and levelling is simple if proper equipment is present. Spacers are considered to be the most important tool in tile levelling system. Spacers are used for gaining uniform space in-between two tiles for grouting. It is used for both floor and wall tiles.
We bought a pack of tile levelling spacers from a leading hardware store. Spacers can break while removing them. On the ground, we laid down a coating of tile glue and set a tile and placed a spacer leaving 5cm from the corner and side and fixed another one. In this way, all tile spacers were set uniformly. Spacers are made of different materials, the most commonly used material is plastic. The plastic used for making tile levelling spacers are checked and certified by the authority. Other materials with which they are made:- stones, ceramics, hard rubber, etc.
To maintain uniformity in laying tiles depends on the equal amount of space in-between two tiles and from the corners of the walls. The prices of these spacers vary according to the company and brands. There are various sizes and it also depends on the thickness of the tiles. The general size ranges from 3mm to 14mm.
